How does the deductible work?

The deductible is the amount you pay yourself each year before your insurer takes over. A higher deductible means a lower premium. After that, you contribute to the costs with a 10% out-of-pocket share, capped at CHF 700 per year for adults or CHF 350 per year for children.

Which deductible is worthwhile for whom?

If you are rarely ill and have low medical costs, you are best off with the highest deductible (CHF 2500). If you have a chronic illness, need regular treatment or are planning a pregnancy, it is better to choose the lowest deductible (CHF 300). Mid-range deductible tiers are rarely worthwhile, because the premium discount usually does not offset the higher cost risk.

Important deadline

You must report a change of deductible to your health insurer by 30 November for the following year.
